Steve Weatherford Shares Quote of the Year “Starve Your Distractions Feed Your Focus”

Steve Weatherford is a Super Bowl XLVI Champ, fitness expert, and now an official FOWNDERS mentor. Ok maybe that won’t be what we will read in his Instagram bio, BUT we’re super pumped to have had mentorship by this living legend.

Weatherford came to Fownders and donated his time and most importantly his knowledge on how to work hard, stay focused, and remain humble in the game. Whether your “game” is entrepreneurship or fitness Weatherford is a powerful mentor that will get your hustle to the next level.

Weatherford’s key theme was all about working the hardest in your industry because often hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

I’m the hardest working person I know. I’m in the gym, I’m eating right, and I’m confident in knowing that no one is working as hard as me when it comes to fitness.

Weatherford has moved on from the Giants locker room to now creating a fitness course Armegaddeon and is heavily involved in philanthropic work through his foundation, The Steve Weatherford World Champion Foundation.

How do you become the best in your industry and become hardest working person you know?

“Starve Your Distractions Feed Your Focus”

You have to be all in on your passions. Distractions are easier than ever to fall victim to because social media has created a habit of meaningless scrolling on our phones. If you want big wins you have to commit yourself to bigger practices.

Your focus is a precious commodity that can’t be replaced. You can’t lose focus and still get the best results.

We all have the same 24 hours in a day what sets us apart is what we do with those hours. Are you all in on your goals or spending more time on bad habits and distractions? Decide and commit right now to Starving Your Distractions and Feeding Your Focus.

Fownders is a learning ecosystem for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs, built for leaders who want to develop the hard skills and soft skills needed to align their purpose towards a prosperous career and lifestyle.

How To Go Viral : A Book Review of “Contagious”

There are books that you read and forget about, and there are books that you read and feel like you level up from. Personally, I’m not a big fan of books that don’t give you actionable steps that you can implement. What’s the point of investing all that time into reading a book when you can only remember one or two things that you can’t even use?

I recently finished a book called Contagious by Jonah Berger. This book is a MUST READ for anyone who is interested in business, marketing or psychology. Through extensive experimentation and research, Berger highlights that they’ve been able to create a formula for why things go viral. Insane, right? I always thought that virality was something that happened for the blessed, but boy was I wrong. Tapping into people’s behavioral patterns, psychology and a bunch of other complicated stuff, the STEPPS system was created.

Before I go into the STEPPS system and how it works, a good point to address is why you would want to make something go viral in the first place. Whether it’s a blog post or an Instagram picture, having a piece of your content go viral is one of the most efficient ways of free marketing. The definition of something going viral is “quickly and widely spread or popularized especially by person-to-person electronic communication” (Merriam-Webster). Having content go viral can increase your social reach anywhere between 5X-100X! When you have viral content, you gain exposure from a market that you previously didn’t have access to. Virality is by far the quickest and most effective way to increase brand awareness.

The STEPPS system can be used to judge how likely a piece of content will go viral; despite what kind of content it is. This isn’t a guarantee, but if you follow these STEPPS, and implement as many as you can, you’ll greatly increase your chances.

Social Currency: People like to share things that make them look good to others. The psychology behind this is a concept called the “Inner Remark Ability”. What this means is that people find satisfaction in things that make them feel like insiders. For example, adding a points system to your business will increase the chances of your customers doing repeated business with you. There’s this inner satisfaction that people get when you give them a certain rank for their efforts, especially when they can compare it to others. Feed peoples need for social standing, and watch them do wonders for you.

Triggers: Connect your content to certain phrases, terms or even colors that trigger a reaction in your audience. As example of this is with the Apple. As soon as people see a white apple, they associate it with the Apple brand. This instantly puts the brand in our head, regardless of the situation we’re in when we see that trigger. Triggers are especially important when thinking about branding. When developing your brands identity, you want to be able to be identified through something in specific, whether it be a logo or a catch phrase. Always remember, top of the mind means tip of the tongue.

Emotion: Being able to make people feel a certain way is one of the most powerful forms of influence that you could use. The trick with emotion is, you have to make sure you’re instilling the right ones into your audience. For example, people are a lot less likely to share content that makes them feel guilty or sad. On the other hand, people are a lot more likely to share content that makes them feel emotions like joy or anger. The most powerful emotion you can instill in person is the feeling of awe. When people are in awe, they feel the urge to let as many people know.

Public: “Built to show, built to grow”. The more identifiable your content or product is, the more likely word will get out about it. For example, red bottom shoes. Some may say they’re quality, others would say they’re overrated and uncomfortable. Regardless of what you think, red bottom shoes are seen as a form of status. You want to have something that stands out and is unique. If you offer the same thing as everyone else, then why would people choose you? Find something that’ll differentiate you in public, and let everyone know what it is.

Practical Value: This is by far my favorite step. What it means is GIVE PEOPLE SOMETHING VALUABLE! The more value you’re able to provide in someone’s life, the more likely they are to be willing to buy your product, or share your content with their friends. Does sharing your product or content help people help others? If not, then try and fix it. Always keep in mind, the likeliness that people will be willing to help you is in proportion to the amount of value they feel you’ve given them.

Stories: People love a good story. Having an impactful company or brand story is invaluable. Why should people follow you? Why should they feel a connection towards you? What do you plan to accomplish with your company or brand? These are all questions that should be answered with your company’s story. When people resonate with your story, they feel a level of intimacy that makes them more inclined to want to share it.

5 Steps For Creating Lasting Goals With An Added Touch Of Soul

copywriter with notes

Goals like ideas are a dime a dozen. It doesn’t matter if you have the best idea or the biggest goal, what matters is if you execute on it.

While having a goal is important there is a dangerous mindset that can creep up that causes more harm than good if you’re not careful.

What do I mean? Well when we set goals, we’re setting high expectations of what we want in the future. Usually their big dreams, big accomplishments, and big wins. When we create big visions for ourselves, we must be careful to not live in the state of “I’ll be happy when…” The “I’ll be happy when” syndrome causes us to become anxious over the future and become unattached to our present. The “I’ll be happy when” syndrome sounds like…

I’ll be happy when I close that deal.
I’ll be happy when I get married.
I’ll be happy when I make more money.
I’ll be happy when I live in the penthouse apartment.

By creating this altered circumstance based state of happiness, we are putting restrictions on our happiness and making it something to experience in the future. But we must remember that happiness can be found right here and right now. Exterior materials can’t produce happiness. It can only be felt within you, and it’s available whenever you chose to experience it.

By living in an “I’ll be happy when” mindset we often lose track of all we’re accomplishing right now. We ignore all our little wins that help us get to those big dreams.

By remembering that small hinges swing big doors, we can bear in mind that all the small wins we’re producing are worth celebrating!

Now that we covered the mindset to be aware of getting stuck in let’s uncover a revolutionary way to set goals, created by my mentor Danielle Laporte.

Step 1. Write down your goals in three areas of your life.

3.Relationships- (romantic, family and friendships)

Step 2. Uncover how gaining these goals will make you feel.

When setting a goal dig deep into how achieving that particular goal will make you FEEL. Dig deep and discover what Laporte has coined, your core desired feelings.

Ask yourself why. Why do you want to close that deal? Is it because it will make you feel successful?

Step 3. Go deeper.

What does success mean to you? Uncover the meaning of success for you, in your own terms. Stay away from these ambiguous terms, define that feeling for yourself. Staying with this successful example, maybe success means achievement. And achievement to you means appreciation. And appreciation to you means to feel valued.

BOOM! Valued is one of the core desired feelings you’re seeking.
Once you narrow down 3-5 of the feelings, these goals will give you write them down. These are your “core desired feelings.”

Now is when the fun begins.

Step 4. Recognize that these are the feelings you’re craving to experience most this year.

Remind yourself daily of these 3 core desired feelings. You can write them daily. Set alarms throughout the day to remind you. You can make them your home screen.

Step 5. Now as you go about your day to days find occasions that can allow you to feel one or all of your core desired feelings.

It’s important not to enter the world knowing these 3 desired feelings and making it other people’s job to make you feel them. Instead set up the rules so you can bring these feelings into your world. Choose to feel them regularly through your intentions. Bring them with you to your meetings. Find times to pause and engage in the feelings. Maybe you will buy yourself flowers, maybe you will make more phone calls home to chat with your mom, or maybe you will allow yourself to take an afternoon nap. Whatever it is you need to do to feel the way you want to – do it.

Studies show when we are happy, we’re more productive. I’m willing to bet that if we’re feeling the core desires, we want most, we will also be more productive.

By reverse engineering the feelings our big goals will create for us and finding ways to feel them without having those achievements tangible yet, we can alter our reality and create a lasting impact on our psyche.

There you have it the NEW way to set goals with a little-added soul.

Where Expert Entrepreneurs Can Give Back To Their “Younger Self”

Remember when you were just starting out as an entrepreneur? All those mistakes you made? How badly do you wish you could give your past the knowledge you know now. Well of course we can’t go back in time, but we can help the future business owners by sharing our wisdom.

At Fownders that’s exactly what we do. You can become a part of this mission by becoming a mentor or speaker to our accelerator’s startups.

At Fownders we pride ourselves on the quality of mentorship we dedicate to our cohorts. During our startup accelerator 12 week program, ‘Seed to Scale’ our team of professional entrepreneurs are committed to mentoring the startups accepted along with the way. Our team here offers their expertise and knowledge to their startup on a daily basis.

We also know how important it is to have outsiders perspectives. That’s why we invite other modern entrepreneurs making big waves in their designated industries to speak to our startups. Those who have accepted our invite include leaders like Lewis Howes, Peter Vjood, and Ryan Blair. And just like everyone here after entering our doors became members of the Fownders’ family.

If you’re an experienced entrepreneur with a desire to give back, consider becoming a Fownders’ mentor or speaker. Mentors commit more time and attention to an assigned startup while a speaker comes for one day and delivers a valuable and action step lesson.

Our second round of Seed to Scale begins in February, and we’re looking for other experts who are interested in mentoring or speaking to this next group of hungry entrepreneurs.

We know as a business owner you already have a busy schedule and we understand that. Our location makes it easy to commute to if you’re in the big city as we’re only one train stop away from New York City.

If you are an expert and seasoned entrepreneur looking for a way to give back and be apart of the Fownders movement, please email

What we look for in a mentor…

We look for people who made it on their own. They took risks, learned the lessons, and kept moving forward.

They are the type of people who know their mission is more than just to feed themselves but about a bigger purpose. They are committed to the highest truth, good, and win for not only them but their clients as well.

They took advantage of our technologically advanced world and positioned themselves to use it for their advancement.

They are giving people that care about their clients and spreading their message to the masses.

They are Fownders and own their lives.

Examples of expertise we’re looking for are people in social media marketing, brand awareness, legality, marketing, website, business plans, or any knowledge you can share with a new business team.
